Lesa Begley has joined the NAME Department as a new lecturer, joining lecturer Laura Alford as co-instructor in ENG 101 teaching duties.

Lecturer, Lesa Begley

Begley came to the University of Michigan as an undergraduate in 1996 to study microbiology and immediately connected with the culture of both the University and Ann Arbor. After completing her Bachelor’s degree she went on to study nitrogen fixation by soil bacteria in graduate school at UM. Following graduate school she studied a variety of topics in the biomedical research field including early neural development pathways, benign and cancerous prostate diseases, burn infection prevention and treatment, and pancreatic cancer. Most recently she has worked at the intersection of data science and microbiology while studying the airway microbiome relationships with asthma and COPD. Begley says she is, “looking forward to bringing new ideas to the College of Engineering students from the perspective of biomedical research.”
