GSRA Jia Mi joins NAME with accolades

Mi recently joined the NAME department with new faculty member Lei Zuo and is already receiving recognition for his work.

Graduate Student Research Assistant, Jia Mi

In August, he attended the Society for Standards Professionals Annual Conference where he received the SES Emerging Professional Award recognizing dedication to the profession and emerging leadership qualities in the field as perceived by his/her peers, as well as the SES Students Scholarship.

Mi receiving the Best Presentation Award during the UMERC-METS conference in Portland.

Likewise, in September, he received the Best Presentation Award during the University Marine Energy Research Community + Marine Energy Technology Symposium (UMERC+METS) in Portland for his presentation, “Dual-flap Floating Oscillating Surge Wave Energy Converter with a Novel Belt-driven Power Takeoff: Design, Modeling and Tank Tests.”

In October Mi was named the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) Dynamic Systems and Control Division (DSCD) Rising Star Award at the Modeling, Estimation, and Control Conference (MECC) in New Jersey for his work entitled, “Ocean Wave Powered Reverse Osmosis Desalination.“

Mi also recently took leadership roles with the International Network on Offshore Renewable Energy by chairing two workshops at the INORE conference that target young professional career development.
